30th August, 2006. 10:31 pm. SAVE BOND LAKE!!!

It is very super important to me that you sign this petition:
http://new.petitiononline.com/uppaceis/petition.html

Bond lake is home to bald eagles, black bears, wolves, bobcats, and other woodland treasures, not to mention it is one of the most beautiful locations in the state:
http://www.kgcphoto.com/bond_falls,_fall_2003.htm

More info can be found at:
http://www.uppac.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=207

SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION. I would consider it a huge favor. Maybe a couple people don't matter, but a couple thousand people do. And while your at it, maybe pay the place a visit and see what we'd be losing.

Hey! It's been a while. So here is an update for anyone interested:

1. I've been doing the brain-computer interface research, which is mostly on my own, and which I will be presenting some of at a rather big international conference for... which is all cool... probably my graduate work will focus on this from here on out. On that topic, I have 2 or 3 years left until I am Dr. Jon, unless I find a good enough reason to stop my education beforehand.

2. I'm programming a 3d video game engine. It will be under the .NET platform (using c# and directx 9), mostly because I like .net and directx and the windows operating system. Linux is okay if you have the time in your life to waste micro-managing everything, but the core mechanics of any linux distribution are still not designed at all for personal multimedia computers. The first versions of it will be MMORPG to try to work out bugs and such, and then I want to expand it so that you can use your characters in other games using the same engine, and bring them back after. We'll see how far I get.

3. I work with general motors on the side, getting paid to impliment applications for new technology. What technology you ask? Can't say, it's secret! Mwuhahahahahahaha.

4. I'm engaged now! Happy days! The girl is Amber, and she is the most beautiful, wonderful, kind person ever. She has a will to succeed in life that is a match for mine, and she loves the outdoors, and she is just so sweet and yummy I could eat her all up. The date is in under 2 years, unless in one year we see life being to busy to make it a happy wedding (then we push back the date a year). I don't have more details yet, at least not to share. Instead of the engagement ring thing, we had matching wedding bands made (she didn't want stones, so we went all ou ton bands) and enchanged them such that I where her future wedding ring around my neck and vice versa. The rings will stay with each other until the wedding. She wants to have the wedding at bond falls, so do I, but family and friends may have difficulty with it so the location of the ceremony is still in question. If we did have a ceremony there, we would have a reception party closer to everyone else later (bond falls is 30 minutes from the wisconson border in the upper penninsula.

Here is a thing, if you do one for me, I'll do one for you too.

I other news, life is busy. I have near no free time ever - but I still put off papers to watch tv. I really liked the last Battlestar Galactica, and I'm into a fansub of the newer anime Blood+. Also I never miss tuesday night Inuyasha. Then its back to school and 6 hours or less a night of sleep, even on the weekends usually. But I have lots of good food, so it's okay. My GM contracted programming job is pretty much over, and I think it went decently well. And I have a near-completely collection of the works of H.P. Lovecraft in audiobook format for my next 10 hour drive to Illinois!

R.I.P. '93 Ford Taurus
I was attending an international psychophysics conference in traverse city, in the process of transporting 4 international students, when my car's heat needle went about a half-inch past where it should logically stop. On the plus side that brought a pretty fall orange color to a part of my dashboard that would otherwise only ever see black. We walked and were late, I felt bad for them having relied on me. So later I drove my car mile at a time (giving it time to cool off) to the nearest repair place that was actually open on a saturday, which was about 8 miles away - it was good exercise walking back. So at first glance it looks like my engine finally shifted low enough to the ground to break a metal hose which happens to carry radiator fluid to it, draining both the engine and my radiator whenever my water pump kicks in. And who knows how much I grinded up the engine like fresh pepper at an italian resteraunt by driving it so far with no fluid. Beyond that I already know that between the radiator itself, the engine mount, the rusted out pipes, and other things that are suppose to be fixed - I should just stop now and consider it gone before I pay any more.
I talked them into giving me money for it, maybe, and as an added bonus they get my mp3 player that I forgot in there... which is humorously enough without the cord to upload new music and is stuck with the Earth Girl Arjuna soundtrack. I'm just glad that this happened within range of people that could give me a ride home. Also because of this I might have another paid programming oppurtunity (having talked with the guy who gave me a ride). Would have sucked to have happened on my way to Illinois! The psychophysics conference was really cool too, I wish I had had something to present there. Lots of professors from around the world that were concerned with perception (psychophysics is what it sounds like: psychology and physics). Some people there were more computer and physics oriented, and some were more psychology oriented. There was even a presentation on quantum physics in relation to conciousness (which was mostly review for me, but very encouraging to see someone of academic prestige talk about).

Despite the car trouble, I will still be at the happening Lien Wilsane party, and I will be looking for a new car too. I have to find a costume though...

Also I ate two bulbs (not cloves, bulbs) of garlic and an entire gingerroot the size of both my hands put together in the time span of less than 24 hours, I feel strange.

Damn, I got duped into doing this, but... sis... jello wrestling?!

A promise is a promise, I'd expect you to do the same.
Leave your name and
1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal.

Yay that was a fun test, you all should take it and look at the "most recent laws" that people came up with - some of them are great.

Update: grad school is hard, I finally did my dishes, I have a spare old PC running the SuSe Linux 9.3 for whoever needs it that claims it first (it is a 367mhz box with 256mb ram and a 40gb drive that reads as 20gb because of limitations of the motherboard, it can read dvds and read/write cds). I still haven't had any visitors since I redecorated (save for my lovah). I want to play fight someone for at least a day (24 hours minus 8 hours rest, minus 2x1 hour meals = 14 hours), no giving up and no punching in the balls, just building up strength and having fun, any takers (swords or no swords)?

So for a graduation present my mom helped me make my apartment really rather nice. It's a two bedroom and since I'm the only one there I have an office and a living room and a bedroom and they are all so fun. Anyone who wants to come see it let me know! If I knew how to make this computer monitor work in reverse, I'd show you some pictures of it. Oh well.

It has plants and rocks and sticks and computer stuff, and speakers discretely wired into each room from my computer. Today I'm going to radio shack to finish that setup. I also have places to sit in my livingroom now, and not a single box that isn't in a closet.

In other news, and for really Sean's benefit only, I perfected printing METW cards, so that there are not white borders, and they look really cool, I've made a couple hazard decks, but I'm still working on the resource portions, and this is another comma delimited thought in this string of words that probably isn't a good sentence, yeah.

I started graduate school this week, looks like it will be tough but nothing I can't handle. I'm taking more credit hours than a standard grad student here, but that's mostly because I want to be done in 2 years. By 30 I want kids so that I can still play with them relatively actively. That gives me up to 5 years to get my doctorate (optional) and a good paying job and a house. How stereotypical, or something, except I'll be doing artificial intelligence programming and brain-computer interface stuff. And I want to live on the coast of lake michigan. In a lighthouse. Whose upper glass light chamber has been converted into a den with an antique looking telescope. With solar panels on the roof. And a big friendly dog named Beorn. Or Bombadil. OR TWO DOGS, ONE WITH EITHER NAME!

Right, well enough for now.
Peace!,
Jon
